As you may know, your campus chapter NRHH membership cap is set at 1% of your on-campus housing population OR a minimum of 20. However, if a certain chapter member becomes inactive (but continues living on campus, meaning they are not an NRHH alum), you may be able to move him or her into an Early Alumni status in order to free up that space for a new inductee. In a given year, you may not move more than 15% of your membership to Early Alumni. The way you move a member is as follows:

Decide about whether or not to move a member, ASK the member about moving them

Obtain an application from from the AD-NRHH - ia_nrhh@nacurh.org

Fill out the form, make sure it is signed by all necessary parties

Either scan the form and email it to the AD-NRHH (to ia_nrhh@nacurh.org) OR snail mail the form to me at my campus address

AD-NRHH makes a decision whether or not to allow moving the member, and gets in touch with the NIC (NACURH Information Center) to make sure that this person's name is removed from the active member list you submitted when affiliating

If you disagree with the decision the AD-NRHH makes (aka, if I don't allow the transfer, for whatever reason) - you may appeal to the NNB (the NRHH National Board) and their decision is final.

the NRHH policy book says:

1. The member and/or chapter must complete the early alumni membership application (contact your AD-NRHH to obtain a copy) which shall include the signatures of: Chapter President, Chapter Advisor, and chapter member for whom the form is being completed.
2. The completed early alumni membership application shall be submitted to the respective AD-NRHH for approval.
3. The number of early alumni members a chapter shall be granted per academic year will not exceed fifteen percent (15) of the chapter's membership cap (i.e.: if a chapter has a membership cap of 50, it will not be allowed more than 8 early alumni members approved per year).
4. It is the right of the AD-NRHH to deny requests for reasons including, but not limited to:
a. The application form is incomplete.
b. The AD-NRHH does not believe that sufficient measures were taken by the chapter to address the member’s inactivity with chapter business before submitting the application.
c. The chapter has exceeded its cap for early alumni membership approvals for the year.
5. If the member and/or chapter wish to appeal the decision of the AD-NRHH, they may appeal to the NRHH National Board (NNB). The decision of the NNB shall be final.

Comment below if you'd like any further information or explanations about Early Alumni

2009 NRHH Wrap Ups!

Hi IACURH NRHH Monkeys!
I hope you're all enjoying the holiday season. Here's your chance to give a shout-out about how your NRHH Chapter is ending the semester! Below are some ideas for what you can post about, but feel free to post anything you'd like to share by clicking the "comments" link at the bottom of this post!

Did you have end-of-semester inductions? If so, what was your induction ceremony like? Did it include awards? other recognition? dinner?

Did your chapter do any holiday season service projects? What were they and how did they work out? Would you recommend this to other schools?

For schools who are looking at boosting their OTM submissions, tell us how your OTM system works on your campus: Who submits OTMs? Are they required to do so? Do you have incentives/rewards for OTM writers? Etc.

Are you planning to do any sort of refresher training at the beginning of next semester? I've been creating and sending out guide books and other resources to help members of the boardroom acclimate to award bid sessions. I would like to apologize for the inconvenience of not being able to download bids off the iacurh.nacurh.org website - but I didn't not have any website access until the very last day of the conference.

So, without further adieu, here are some things I've accomplished this month

facilitated bid submissions and uploaded bids to RapidShare

updated Bid Session and Bid Defense guides, sent them via the listserv

had a 1 on 1 with Ross (the NAN)

got my wisdom teeth removed ...

participated in an amazing Pre-Conference with my fellow regional execs

Wrote legislation to create a new NRHH Adviser to help all of the NRHHs in the region and ease with the transition process of execs

had sever great 1 on 1s with Dominick

led an NRHH roundtable discussion with all NRHH presidents from across the region

got access to the IACURH website

set the bidding timeline for No Frills 2010

created the No Frills 2010 award bid guide

UPLOADED! My name is Alla and I'm your new Associate Director of NRHH. I'm super excited to write for and run this blog over the course of the next 12 months!

For this late May/June post-NACURH 2009 edition of the blog, talk about the end of the school year and how your chapter evolved and transitioned in these past few months. Elections, inductions, and conferences are all incredibly important to the survival of our NRHH chapters and it's always great to share what you've all accomplished.

Below there are some things you can write about, but as always, feel free to tell us anything you'd like. Come back to the blog and check out others' comments. You might even want to respond to questions or comments your IACURH NRHH friends make!

Transitioning: Did your chapter hold elections? Will you be entering the school year with a full executive board?

OTMs: How were your OTM submissions toward the end of the year? Did you do any final pushes for submissions? How did you recruit new members?

Recognition: What sort of recognition projects did your NRHH do between Feburary and the end of the school year? What organizations/people did you recognize?

NACURH 2009: Did you bring any new members to the conference? Did you learn anthing particularly awesome that you're excited to bring back to your chapter next year? Did your delegation attend the NRHH-specific NACURH U track (if so, how was it)? Did your chapter send an NRHH rep to NACURH corportate board room?

As always - fell free to use the topics as guidlines for what to talk about. This is an open space for you to share your chapters' achievements and goings-on. If you have any questions for me, feel free to email ia_nrhh@nacurh.org. Check out what I've been up to this month, and feel free to ask questions or post comments!

Semis: At the NACURH Semi-Annual Business Meeting I met with Ron (the National Associate for NRHH and Special Initiatives) and the other ADs of NRHH and we took care of a bunch of NRHH fun! We created new National by-laws and went through the policy book, editing inaccuracies and clarifying things. There aren't really any huge changes, we just made things easier to understand (I hope). We also agreed on four official pillars for the NRHH: scholastics, leadership, recognition, and service. In addition, we re-worked some legislation to propose a change to the required GPA for NRHH induction; it looks like we'll be trying to change it to 2.75 at the NACURH conference. We also set up a NRHH t-shirt design competition for a National NRHH t-shirt the NSRO will sell. You got several e-mails from me about this stuff.

OTMs: I've been working on putting together a Regional OTM Guide for IACURH. I've got SWACURH's regional guide, some old guidelines provided by IACURH back in the day, and some various OTM judging guides that I'm putting together. I've also been putting together an OTM-training powerpoint for IACURH schools to use if they want to. If your school has an OTM-training guide or something like it, feel free to send it to me. I'm compiling the best of what I have to give us an awesome guide! I'm also very proud to say that University of New Mexico and Fort Lewis College are both getting started on OTMs! This is great!

Working with the Award Bidding and Recognition Committee: The committee has hit some speedbumps lately, but will be pulling things together at sNOw Frills for sure! I have a few fake bids for a bid session video, and hope to get a few more from committee members. The committee will also be working through a Bid Defender Guide that Jaime Ingrisano started when she was the committee chair. Hopefully we'll be able to get that out before sNOw Frills!

Award Bidding: The bid guide is out and questions are rolling in! Intents came in early and on time. I'm so proud of IACURH! 40 bid intents is GREAT!!! It's a lot of work for me (reading through 40 bids!), but I couldn't be happier! Right now I'm working with Ben Blaker to get bid sessions scheduled and squared away for the conference. It's gonna be great! I'm also working on revising the bid facilitator guide I created for the IACURH conference and updating the bid session guide.

Getting Ready for sNOw Frills: I have so much to do for sNOw Frills! I've been working on a powerpoint/discussion guide for the NRHH breakout so we make sure we get through everything we need to talk about! There are several national issues that we need to discuss, and I also want to make sure we get to things you want to talk about with each other as well. Speaking of which, send me your suggestions for this! Tell me what you think we should talk about, what do you want to address with all the other NRHH reps from IACURH schools? I have to prepare for committee breakouts, NRHH breakout, bid sessions, and the awards ceremony at the end of sNOw Frills. Not to mention affiliation and OTM recruitment! I also need to prepare transition materials for my successor. The fun never ends!

National Stuff: On the national level, I have been spending lots of time spear-heading the GPA initiative, which is still going through. Preparing a statistical report of all the data that came from the GPA survey has been keeping my office hours occupied! I'm definitely no statistics major! Also, creating national position guides has been a challenge. The other ADs of NRHH and I have been talking frequently and the CAACURH AD-NRHH is on board with my OTM guide research. The NEACURH AD-NRHH and I have been kicking around ideas about the national structure of NRHH, and I've also been working with Ron and the NIC to ensure NRHH affiliation is accurate on the NACURH website and in NACURH records.

And on top of it all, school has got me jumping! I cut my office hours a little this semester to concentrate more on school because my 7th and 8th graders keep me busy! BYU RHA has some of its largest events in January and February this year too, so that's been keeping me busy (for those of you who don't know, I'm the BYU RHA President too). I guess it's a good thing my love life is 700 miles away, because I'm not sure how much more I could fit into my life!

In any case, please remember that I'm available for calling, IMing, e-mailing, etc. during my office hours (which are posted on the right side of this page). Send your questions my way!

2008 Chapter Wrap-up Post

Hey NRHH!

Here's your chance to give a shout-out about how your NRHH Chapter ended the semester!

If so, what does that involve?

Again, feel free to add anything you'd like to your post, and don't feel like you have to respond to every point above or write a novel. Due to this, and the fact that we caught up with each other a little at the Regional Conference in November, I decided to combine the November and December monthly blog posts in a wrap-up post for 2008.

Here's what I've been working on as this calendar year comes to a close:

Award Bidding for sNOw Frills: My goal was to get the Award Bidding Guide for sNOw Frills 2009 released via the IACURH listserv and the IACURH website by December 1, giving our schools plenty of time to read through the available award criteria and think about nominees worthy of recognition from their schools. I hope this early release has been helpful, and I plan to send out the Guide again a few weeks into January when schools are starting. I hope that each school planning to come to sNOw Frills will be defending at least one award bid. Please let me know if I can help you with bidding in any way!

National NRHH Business: As Chair of the National Honorary Standards Committee, it has been my privilege to oversee the survey of all NACURH's NRHH Chapters regarding an increase in the National GPA Standard for NRHH Inductees. I've been meeting with my committee frequently to make sure the survey feedback is thoroughly processed and discussed. IACURH did a phenomonal job responding to the National Survey! Thank you for all your support for me and NRHH in general!

Preparation for the National Semi-Annual Business Meeting: In preparation for "Semis" I've been working on putting together committee reports, reviewing National Legislation (as part of my assignment to the National Legislative Review Commission), and helping Ben Blaker put together our IACURH Regional Report. I'm very excited to see Ben, Dan, and all our University of Arizona friends when I head to the conference in less than two weeks!

Regional Award Bidding and Recognition Committee: As Jaime Ingrisano takes on her regional position in January, the Regional Award Bidding and Recognition Committee will need a new chair. I've done a little recruiting for that, and will be passing the decision on to Ben Blaker. If you're interested and you haven't e-mailed me, let me know! The Committee is currently working on "fake" bids for the Bid Orientation Video that will be filmed at sNOw Frills, and will be starting work on a Regional OTM Resource Guide as well as releasing a Regional Bid Defender Guide before sNOw Frills.

I started conversations with several schools at IACURH about getting OTMs submitted from their schools, and even starting up NRHH Chapters. I ended up deciding not to send out large Recruitment Packets, but instead to let schools focus on building their RHAs and start with small recognition like OTMs. I feel that in the future, many schools will be ready for NRHH Chapters, but perhaps pushing too hard will do more harm than help for some of our schools in IACURH.

If you have any questions or ideas about OTMs, Bidding, or any of the things I've discussed above, please feel free to comment on this post or send me a quick e-mail! Thank you for your hard work, dedication for NRHH, and support for me as your AD-NRHH!

I hope you all have a fantastic Winter Break!

Instead of October Monthly Reports....

Hey IACURH NRHH!

Since I know we were all super-busy during October with bids, OTMs, getting ready for IACURH, and all that jazz, I don't want to take too much time with this blog post.

So here are the three questions you should post answers to in the comments section of this post:

What were you most unsure about going in to IACURH?

Did IACURH help you at all? Also, the NRHH Chapters should use this blog to see what's going on with other chapters in the region and get ideas and information.

Each month, I will post a monthly report of what's going on with NRHH on the regional and national levels.

In turn, I will ask all NRHH presidents to read this blog and post replies when requested. Each month I will create a post that asks questions about what your chapter has been doing that month. When you reply, that will be your chapter's official monthly report. Also, in order to facilitate the sharing of ideas and information between chapters, I will post a case study/question each month that deals with issues I see in IACURH's chapters specifically.

To break it down-
This blog is NOT:

a replacement of the NACURH NRHH forum

a place to ask and answer specific questions regarding NRHH policy (you should e-mail me with those questions)

a replacement of the NRHH National Website

the only place to go for NRHH resources

This blog IS:

a place to post monthly chapter reports

a way to stay caught up with what other chapters and the AD-NRHH are up to each month

a place to check out the issues IACURH chapters are dealing with and make suggestions regarding those issues

Ideally this blog will help IACURH NRHH chapters build regional unity and engage in conversations that will be beneficial to all IACURH's chapters. I welcome any questions or suggestions if you'd like to comment on this post.

Introducing Your AD-NRHH

Hi there Monkeys!I’m super-pumped to be your AD-NRHH for this coming school year.We have a lot of work and progress to be made regionally with NRHH, so it’s time to get crackin’!I’ve already had some experience with the NRHH National Board and I’ve studied the by-laws and constitutions for both regional and national levels, so hopefully I can help you with most of the questions you have.
A little bit about me: I'm majoring in English Education and will be student teaching this coming winter and graduating next April.I was on the swim team in high school, and I also played soccer and basketball. I have no self control when it comes to Butterfingers, and I am a huge fan of smoothies and waffles. I find great joy in Disney movies, rollerskating, dancing to loud music, baking experiments, singing in the mountains, cake decorating, big snowflakes that stick to my eyelashes, tomato soup and grilled cheese, deep red roses, editing papers, happy surprises, and letters from friends around the world.
I look forward to getting to know all of you RBD members, especially our NRHH Presidents and/or Regional Representatives. Some goals I have that pertain to my position are: update and certify all IACURH NRHH Chapter constitutions, improve communication and idea-flow between IACURH NRHH chapters through online resources and social networking, provide bid resources that fulfill the needs of IACURH’s first-time bid-writers, help all IACURH member schools (even those without NRHH chapters) improve quantity and quality of OTMs, work with the NRHH National Board on GPA initiatives and consistency in NRHH National documents and resources, and provide IACURH with information and answers in a timely manner.
